Helpful Traffic Citation Information

You have been issued a traffic citation for violating a section of the Standard Traffic Ordinance for Kansas Cities. You now have options on how to take care of the traffic citation, all of which must be done on or prior to the date listed on your citation.

Payment of Fines & Court Costs

If you have been charged with a violation that does not have a mandatory court appearance, you have the option to pay the fines and court cost listed on your citation prior to the appearance date.

Court Costs are required to be paid on all citations regardless of if you choose to appear in court.

Payments can be mailed to the City of Greensburg Municipal Court or paid online at

www.trafficpayment.com

Payment Arrangements can be made with the Municipal Court Clerk.

Right To Trial

If you wish to contest the violation(s) you have been charged with, you must enter a "Not Guilty" plea with the Municipal Court Clerk prior to the appearance date on your citation. You then must appear for the trial in-person at the date and time listed.

All traffic trials will be a bench trial before the Honorable Municipal Court Judge. In most cases, traffic charges are not eligible for court appointed attorneys. Greensburg Municipal Court does not impose jail time for traffic offenses.

No Proof of Insurance or Registration

If you have been issued a traffic citation for no proof of insurance or registration, and it was active at the time of the stop, you have ten days to provide it to the Court Clerk. If not provided within ten days you must pay the fine or appear in court.

Amendment Options

By requesting an Amendment through the City Attorney's Office you can keep a traffic citation from appearing on your driving record.

This is available for most traffic citations, including for individuals with a Commercial Driver's License. To request an amendment you do not have to appear in court and do not need to hire an attorney.

Contact the City Attorney's Office by e-mail with your name, citation number, date you were cited, and contact information. You will then be sent paperwork to complete and return to the court with payment.

This must be done before paying the citation. If you pay before returning the amendment paperwork, you will be convicted and it will be sent to the DMV.
